Islam, an exemplary framework
Abu Bakr (R. A)
If I do well, help me; and if I do wrong, set me right. Sincere regard for truth is loyalty and disregard for truth is treachery. The weak amongst you shall be strong with me until I have secured his rights, if God wills; and the strong amongst you shall be weak with me until I have wrested from him the rights of others, if God wills.
Umar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (R. A.) to his leadership team
Remember, I have not appointed you as commanders and tyrants over the people. I have sent you as leaders instead, so that the people may follow your example. Give the Muslims their rights and do not beat them lest they become abused. Do not praise them unduly, lest they fall into the error of conceit. Do not keep your doors shut in their faces, lest the more powerful of them eat up the weaker ones. And do not behave as if you were superior to them, for that is tyranny over them.
To be close to the poor, Umar (R.A.) lived in a simple mud hut without doors and walked the streets every evening. After consulting with the poor, Umar established the first welfare state, Bayt al-mal. The Bayt al-mal aided the Muslim and non-Muslim poor, needy, elderly, orphans, widows, and the disabled.
Uthman ibn Affan (R. A.)
The economic reforms introduced by Uthman (R.A.) had far-reaching effects; Muslims, as well as non-Muslims of the Rashidun Empire, enjoyed an economically prosperous life during his reign. Uthman (R.A.) drew no personal allowance from the treasury, nor did he receive a salary.
Alī ibn Abī Ṭālib (R. A.)
For your brother, offer your blood and wealth, for your enemy, your justice and fairness, and for people in general, your joy and good favour.
If you want to borrow some...
